Knowledge and Information Skills Training

Update Your Knowledge training is free to all Trust staff and students. Training sessions focus on developing the skills you need to search for and use evidence in your role.

Format of delivery; 1-2-1, e-Learning and bespoke training for teams.

Finding Evidence (1-2-1)

  • Support in planning systematic review

RefWorks (1-2-1)

RefWorks is a web based reference management tool that is accessible via a NHS Current Athens account. It allows you to search, organise and share your research, plus automatically formatting your bibliography as you type. Course description.

Bespoke Training for Groups

You can request a bespoke information skills session for your team. A minimum of 6 candidates are required for group training. Courses can be tailored as required.

  • Introduction to Critical Appraisal - The course focuses on the theoretical principles of critical appraising an article, rather than hands-on practice. Course Description

  • Health Literacy and Using AI - Focuses on the pros and cons of using AI as a source for evidence searching. Course Description

  • BMJ Best Practice - Getting the best out of the point of care tool. Course description.

  • Setting up and Running a Journal Club - Ideal for those individuals thinking of setting up a journal club or seeking support from the Knowledge and Library Service.

Knowledge and Library Service Induction

Delivered on a monthly basis via MS Teams, this session is specifically designed for newcomers to the Trust to welcome you to the service and develop an awareness of our services available.

e-Learning Modules

You can update your information skills independently and at your own pace. Use your NHS OpenAthens account to access the modules.

To support the Learning at Work Week within the trust RWT Knowledge and Library Services are offering a number of training sessions.

 

Face to Face Group Sessions

There are limited places of 12 for these sessions, please book early.

Advanced Literature Searching - The course focuses on the concepts you need to know when searching databases. Monday 12th May 2025. 10am to 12noon. Room 1, Building 11, Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, New Cross Hospital.

Managing Your References Using RefWorks - Fed up with creating bibliographies? The course covers the function and structure of RefWorks to help manage your references and time. Wednesday 14th May 2025. 2pm to 4pm. Course Description      

Health Literacy and Using Artificial Intelligence -  The course helps to develop an understanding of the benefits and limitations of AI tools within the area of information literacy. Thursday 15th May 2025. 2pm to 4pm. Course Description
