Are there any budding authors out there?
The Knowledge and Library Services team is looking to encourage more Trust staff to read and write for pleasure! We’ve been running a book club for over eighteen months and want to set you a writing challenge. How about entering our short story competition?
There’s no set theme or prompt, so let your imaginations run wild! It can be serious or silly, historic or futuristic, scary or heartwarming, it can be whatever you want! All that matters is you tell a good story.
The maximum word count is 6,000, but if that sounds a bit intimidating, don’t panic! There’s no minimum word count, so if you fancy writing something a lot shorter, then go for it. On the other hand, if you find your story a few words over the threshold, that’s okay too. We won’t enforce it that strictly (just make sure it’s a handful and not hundreds!)
No good deed goes unrewarded, so of course we have some prizes for the best submissions!
1st – £40 Amazon Voucher + Goodie Bag
2nd - £20 Amazon Voucher + Goodie Bag
3rd – Chocolates + Goodie Bag
Once you’ve written your story just send it to rwh-tr.BellLibrary@nhs.net with the subject heading “Bell Library Writing Competition”. Attach it as a PDF, with the file name being the title of the story, and in the body of the email include your full name, your department, and a contact number.
The closing date for submissions is 8th November and the winners will be announced on 8th December. If there’s anything you’re not sure about, get in touch either on the email above or on ext. 85322. We’re super excited to see what you come up with, so channel your inner author and get writing!
P.S. Are you interested in participating, but struggling for inspiration? Why not check out the library’s fiction collection or, better yet, join the Royal Readers Book Club for that creative spark! (Wink wink, nudge, nudge.)
